Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I’d Love To Meet

TTT-NEW

Hosted By That Artsy Reader

Happy Tuesday Bookworms! Another day closer to Halloween and I just couldn’t be more excited for this month. So much to do in so little time. For this week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Author’s I would like to meet. I’m very excited to discuss this topic and recently put a list together. If only authors came to Vegas more often, You would think they would but it’s either I’m missing out or they are going to some secret spot that I don’t know about. Who knows, but one thing is for sure is that they do seem to attend a lot of book signings in California so lucky me that state is my neighbor. Here are the authors I would love to meet and discuss stories they created and have some tea with that discussion (FACT: I get Starstruck)

MARISSA MEYER

I’m sure you all know Marissa Meyer, you know the one who wrote the Lunar Chronicles, Heartless, and her newest addition Renegades! She is on top of my list and luckily for me, she will be in Los Angles next month doing a book signing just two days before my birthday and I told my boyfriend it’s a must that I attend next month! I really can not miss out on this opportunity. Marissa Meyer here I come!

HOLLY BLACK

Oh yes, you made it on the list just because I read one book, The Cruel Prince and I fell in love right away, therefore Holly is on the list, do I really need to say more!? I’m sure you all would agree with me.

AMANDA FOODY

Her writing is unique to me and I love every second reading her books. I would love to have Mrs.Foody here sign my books and take a Polaroid Picture with me! Sounds creepy? No worries I’m obsessed with my polaroid camera.

LEIGH BARDUGO

I need to meet Leigh Bardugo! I have questions that need answers. Wonderful author, I adore her writing. I feel like we would have a good conversation discussing Six Of Crows and Crooked Kingdom.

TOMI ADEYEMI

Oh yes! I need my Children Of Blood And bone sign and please let’s discuss how wonderful she truly is with her stories. Everything about this author would be a blessing to meet her and get my books sign.

GREGORY MAGUIRE

The one that started the Wicked series. I would need a big fat cup of tea with this meeting. I feel Gregory as a creative imagination with his stories, I love each book he has written therefore I have tons of questions and tons of books that need to be signed from him.

BONUS FEATURE

Yes I know she is an actress, Yes I know she is awesome, and yes I totally froze when I met her. Who am I talking about! I’m talking about Vivica A. Fox. Mrs.Fox was at our local Barnes And Noble this year doing her book signing for her book called Every Day I’m Husting.

I was second in line to have my book signed. My mind was racing on what to say. I didn’t really have much to say, the only thing that was going thru my damn mind was KILL BILL IS AWESOME! That’s the last thing I wanted to say. I mean I knew that I wanted to really say but it was corny as hell, you know “Oh your book is so inspirational, your book made me smile and laugh..blah blah” Nope! I knew she heard it all by others and I didn’t want to add to it. I was stuck and I was out of time. Luckily for me, Mrs. Fox is truly amazing women who take her fans very seriously.

She started the convo and what did she ask me first? Well, basically what everyone talks to me about when they first meet me…I have a huge Rose and Spider tattoo on my neck and yes that caught her attention. Meeting her was truly amazing. Her book was very inspirational and reminds you that it’s okay to work on yourself to get where you want to be and be happy with yourself first before anything else. Highly recommend her book for women who are struggling maybe on finding yourself.

IMG_1514.JPG

My Aunt Nicky on the left, Vivica A. Fox, and me! Yes, of course, I had to take the picture with my Polaroid camera! Old Skool style.

Hope you all in enjoyed this list. Love to hear what everyone thoughts are. Did you meet any of these authors yet? Who do you want to meet?

WITCH: A MAGICAL CHARACTER OR BOOK.

I’m going to give this one to the book Hocus Pocus And The All-New Sequel with Winnie Sanderson as the magical one. I mean she is pretty scary witch if she really was to come to this world.

WEREWOLF: THE PERFECT BOOK TO READ AT NIGHT.

IMG_1509

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark By Alvin Schwartz

I had this book since I was a child. This book scared me to death and made me stay up all night. Did you all know that they are in the process to make a movie from this spooky book?

FRANKENSTEIN: A BOOK THAT TRULY SHOCKED YOU.

Hocus Pocus And The All-New Sequel By J. W. Jantha. The sequel was not what I was expecting at all.

IMG_1412

THE DEVIL: A DARK, EVIL CHARACTER.

Well considering the title I’m going to dedicate this one to the Devil himself from Midnight With The Devil By Emma Castle. Gosh that was such an epic read!

GRIM REAPER: A CHARACTER THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE DIED.

From Six Of Crows/ Crooked Kingdom Matthias Helvar! I was not expecting it, I loved his character and who he was so much. Why! Why did he have to be the one to go?!!!

ZOMBIE: A BOOK THAT MADE YOU “HUNGRY” FOR MORE.

The Cruel Prince By Holly Black. I seriously need more of it, you have no idea! I’m counting down the days for The Wicked King!

GARGOYLE: A CHARACTER THAT YOU WOULD PROTECT AT ALL COST.

Enne Salta from Ace Of Shades By Amanda Foody all the way! I would be her BFF and show her the city of Sin and protect her from the street lords or anyone who would try to conflict her with sin to keep her an innocent person she was when she entered the city from the beginning. Ohh man I really can’t wait for the second book King Of Fools! I hope Enne hasn’t lost herself.

VAMPIRE: A BOOK THAT SUCKED THE LIFE OUT OF YOU.

One Too Many Lies By L. A. Bowen. At least it was a short story but seriously! It was truly boring.

GHOST: A BOOK THAT STILL HAUNTS YOU.

Heartless By Marissa Meyer. I mean I knew it was coming but not in that way. I thought it was going to be a bit more twisted but it ended in the way I least expected to.

DEMON: A BOOK THAT REALLY SCARED YOU.

Once again Scary Stories By Alvin Schwartz. It really messed me up as a kid, and I honestly haven’t read the stories since I was a kid however now that I am an adult I will be re-reading the stories. May the angels be on my side for this.

SKELTON: A CHARACTER YOU HAVE A BONE TO PICK WITH.

Prince Cardan from The Cruel Prince By Holly Black. Ohh yeah, I want to know what makes you think that you can take your anger on another. He really bugs me.

MUMMY: A BOOK YOU WOULD PRESERVE THROUGHOUT TIME.

My Warrior series By Erin Hunter hands down. I would cherish these lovelies forever and ever. Thanks to these series I developed a severe addiction to reading.

CREEPY DOLL: A COVER TOO SCARY TO LOOK AT.

99284b20-2f49-0134-0aed-0629623c6db9.jpg

The Replacement By Brenna Yovanoff

I never read this book nor do I plan too. The cover of this is creeeeepy!

THE MONSTER MASH.

It’s fun to be with friends on Halloween. Tag your friends!

Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel Book Review

hocus-pocus-sequel-book-cover-1079832

Title: Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel

Author: A. W. Jantha

Publisher: FreeForm Books

Pages: 521

Rating: th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7

I can not tell you how disappointing this book was. Everything from the start of the sequel to the very end. I almost DNF the book, but since this is a sequel to one of my favorite Halloween movies as a child I wanted to finish the story. I knew it wasn’t going to get better.

The beginning of the book is just a recap from the movie with more knowledge of the characters feelings and a little bit more about the Sanderson sisters. I’m pretty bummed out that the author left out my favorite scene from the movie which was when the kids ran up to the cop who really wasn’t a cop! I just think that part should have been put into the book.

Once you get to the sequel its 25 years later on Halloween day in Salem. Max and Allison have a daughter named Poppy. I’m curious to why the author wanted the daughter name Poppy when everyone else has normal names like the author wanted the character to stand out more? Poppy has two close friends, Isabella and Travis. Poppy has a crush on her friend Isabella, and Travis who looks out for Poppy helping her with school, and social life with the other kids when Poppy seems to be getting attacked by others.

To sum it up without giving away to much of the story, Poppy doesn’t believe in her parents or her Aunt Dani’s story about Sanderson’s sister when they were kids. Poppy, Isabella, and Travis head to the Sanderson’s house and pretty much did exactly what her parents did 25 years ago minus the black candle.

It seems to me the author tried too hard to make this sequel to be better or equal to the first Hocus Pocus that she was adding too much of the same stuff from the first story. I didn’t like the same jokes and it wasn’t nearly as funny. The story was just too much for me and didn’t have enough originality for me. One thing that was irritating was that Sarah Sanderson would say Amok Amok Amok in the first story than with the sequel she always seems to be repeating herself with words like Afoot and such.

You do get to read some familiar characters from the first story which was nice. There is a new character named Elizabeth who is Winnie, Mary, and Sarah’s sister. I honestly didn’t think it was necessary to add another witch to the famous Sanderson witches.

All in all this story wasn’t it for me. Like I said I’m pretty bummed out about it. I couldn’t get into the story, everything just seemed forced together and that the author was trying to hard to make this story stand out.

If you read this book or thinking about reading the book let me know what your thoughts are. TTFN.

Ready to bring the Sanderson Sisters back?

Top Ten Tuesday Books By My Favorite Authors That I Still Haven’t Read

TTT-NEW

Hosted By That Artsy Reader Girl

Happy Tuesday from me to you. For this week we are going to discuss books that I have not read yet from my favorite authors. This is going to be a fun topic!

I do like to keep up with the authors that I love when they come out with new books, however, I always end up with other books that have been on my list for a while. So this list might be small. But here we go!

First on the list is Marissa Meyer. I truly love her work. Her stories are so amazing and love each and every one of them so far. Heartless would be my favorite yet. Marissa has a lot of wonderful books out that I have not got around to yet. So this list actually might just be her books that I want to read and no other author since I’m caught up with all my other favorites. So here are Marissa’s books that I have yet to read.

Renegades By Marissa Meyer

I am so sad that this book sold out at my Barnes And Noble. This was on top of my list to purchase today and that didn’t happen. This is the number one book I want to purchase and just will have to wait or find it at another store or even order it online. But for real I really want my hands on this book and read asap once I do.

Scarlet By Marissa Meyer

Wires And Nerve By Marissa Meyer

Gosh! I need to read these as soon as possible. I mean it too! So many good books coming out from left and right and my TBR list are just getting bigger and bigger rather than small. I need to dedicate one whole month of just catching up with Marissa’s books.

Have you read any of these lovely books I would like to hear your thoughts! TTFN.

September Book Haul

IMG_1484.jpg

Howdy bookworms! Today was a wonderful day. Always is when you go on a full book day shopping. Today I went shopping at my local Barnes And Noble store. I usually spend two hours there wandering around looking for books I want to add to my collection. Once a month I go on a book haul and purchase books to add to my book collection. Today I brought home 14 books altogether, not to bad for a September book haul. Curious on what I purchase? Let me show you!

IMG_1487

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing By Hank Green.

Every other month I tend to my local Barnes And Noble bookstore for the book club. This month is this lovely gem by Hank Green. I heard nothing but great things about Mr. Green so I am looking forward to this read and for the next book club meeting.

IMG_1488.JPG

Small Fry By Lisa Brennan – Jobs

My Aunt Nicky told me about this book last month. I’m very excited to read this. We all know who Steve Jobs is ( Just in case you didnt…he is the creator of APPLE) well he had a daughter with his high school sweetheart, his first child and well he wasn’t that good to her. This is her story. I just have a feeling this is going to be an epic read.

IMG_1489.jpg

Warriors Series *The New Prophecy* By Erin Hunter

Of coures, I had to collect more of these lovely gems. They are the reason why I started reading growing up. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the other three books in this series at the store. Just means I will have to order them.

IMG_1490

Rule By Ellen Goodlett

I saw this and something told me to get it. I don’t know what it is but it looks and sounds fantastic. Magic, mystery, blackmail….sounds like a twisted story. The description of the story is what sold me on the book. A king is dying and needs an heir which brings three of his daughters who seem to have dark secrets of their own and someone knows about them and is trying to stop them from ruling. Another typical royal story but I can’t help myself when it comes to twisted stories, especially if it is written detailed and is unique.

IMG_1491

Two Dark Reigns By Kendare Blake

I have the other two first books and I have yet to start the series. I hear mix things about the books but only you can tell. I’m hoping to get started in the series but as of right now I’m focusing on one book at a time rather than series right now. But I still wanted to add this gem to the collection. It’s on my TBR list.

IMG_1492

Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda By Becky Albertalli

My boyfriend had bought me the second book Leah On The Off Beat first before I got the chance to read the first one. I didn’t know it at the time about the first book. I have yet to read both of them which makes them both on my TBR list.

IMG_1493

The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice And Virtue By Mackenzi Lee

I had to jump on the bandwagon for this one. I hear nothing but great things. Also, I love the front cover because the man looks like Hayden Christensen. Yes, I love that man only because of Star Wars!

Yes? No? You tell me!

IMG_1494

Scythe & Thunder Head By Neal Shusterman

I have been keeping my eyes on these books for some time and today was the day I decided to bring them home. Yet I hear mix things about the series but only I can tell. The story sounds unique and original. The covers are unique and beautiful. Yes, book covers are what leads me to buy books more.

IMG_1495.jpg

Stalking Jack The Ripper & Hunting Prince Dracula By Kerri Maniscalco

Indeed these bad boys have been on my list for a long time. I had my eyes on them and wish I only got them a lot sooner. Unfortunately, the hardcovers were all gone at the store and paperbacks only. I had to make the choice to either order the hardcovers online or get the first two books in paperbacks and wait for the third one to come out to paperback…well I’m an impulsive buyer and I needed these lovely gems.

Every time I go to Barnes And Noble I always leave with two items for my bookshelves.

  1. IMG_1496

I always buy one or two leather cover editions to add to my collection. I absolutely love the books that they feature for the leather editions. Today was Little Women By Louisa May Alcott.

2. IMG_1485

Flashing Gremlin From Gremlins

The second items are the Funko Pops! A must have when I go shopping at Barnes And Noble to add to the collection.

IMG_1486

Big Boy From Bob’s Big Boy

I saw this and I just freaked out! I’m originally from Michigan and my family and I always enjoyed eating there. I love this so much and is officially my favorite Funko Pop right now. Gosh seeing this is making me crave a Slim Jim sandwich!

Hope you guys enjoyed this list. Let me know if you read any of these books or let me know what your thoughts are. TTFN.

One Too Many Lies ARC Book Review

51VmK1NXBIL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_

Title: One Too Many Lies

Author: L. A. Bowen

Publisher: West 44 Books

Publishing Date: December 1, 2018

Pages: 200

Rating: th6UTD2VT7

THANK YOU NETGALLEY AND THE PUBLISHER FOR THE COPY OF THIS BOOK. ALL THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ARE MY OWN.

This book was not for me. The book is written in verse. I felt this could have been written better with more of a story to it. The book was not going anywhere with the characters or nothing too exciting happens.

Paige is the girl writing as if she is in her journal. She writes down everything that is going on around her. She and her two best friends tell little white lies to people around them if it is about their age or where they are staying the night.

The story is short and maybe could have been a bit longer so we could get more from the characters. But all in all, I almost DNF the book but kept going for hopes that it was going to get better with the plot but nothing came of it.

I gave it 1/5 for the lack of character growth, not very detailed or scripted. The story of the girls and the white lies was just not very interesting or exciting for me.

Ready to take a chance?

Book Reader Problems Tag

Untitled

Happy Monday everyone. A new day another chapter. Been sewing all day and decided to take a break and post another fun tag for today. I found this lovely Book Tag on Book Filled Brain

Let’s begin this tag!

YOU HAVE 20,000 BOOKS ON YOUR TBR, HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU DECIDE WHAT TO READ NEXT?

It depends on my mood. If I’m feeling like I need a fantasy story or a crazy twisted dark story or even just a chilled relax story. It all depends how I’m feeling..sometimes. Other times if the book has been on the TBR list for a long time then I’ll start reading it.

YOU’RE HALFWAY THROUGH A BOOK AND YOU’RE JUST NOT LOVING IT. DO YOU PUT IT DOWN OR ARE YOU COMMITTED?

I have never DNF a book before. I’m always committed, I mean I have times, where I’m just thinking to myself or out loud too, where I say I’m not going to finish the book but I always do cause I just want to have hopes that at least in the end it could get better?

THE END OF THE YEAR IS COMING UP AND YOU ARE BEHIND ON YOUR READING CHALLENGE, DO YOU TRY AND CATCH UP? AND IF SO HOW?

Yes and no. Yes, I want to complete my challenge goal but if I’m behind a whole lot then I don’t want to force myself to read more and make myself feel forced to read just for a challenge, takes the fun of reading away for me.

THE COVER OF A SERIES YOU LOVE DO NOT MATCH. HOW DO YOU COPE?

I have no choice but to get over it I guess. But I do believe covers are a huge thing, at least for me.

EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER LOVES A BOOK THAT YOU DO NOT. WHO DO YOU BOND WITH OVER YOUR SHARED FEELINGS?

To the Book Community! Right here on my blog. Someone usually agrees with me here.

YOURE READING A BOOK IN PUBLIC AND YOU START CRYING, HOW DO YOU DEAL?

I don’t read in public! There is a huge reason for it. I can not stand people even more so when I read. There is always someone around that is either on their phones talking around me, someone chewing with their mouths open, kids yelling or crying, or someone staring at me like I’m crazy for holding a book in my hand rather than looking down at my cell phone. The only place I read that is public is my favorite reading cafe but that is it. Nowhere else. Unless I’m on a plane or at the DMV. Also, I will hold back the tears if it was to happen. No one wants to see me cry, I don’t want to see myself cry or anyone cry for that matter.

THE SEQUEL TO A BOOK YOU LOVE JUST CAME OUT BUT YOUVE FORGOTTEN A LOT OF WHAT HAPPENS. ARE YOU GOING TO REREAD IT?

Nope. I’m going to look back at my book reviews here on my blog to freshen up my memory. Plus if I’m reading the sequel that means I like the first book which means I won’t forget what happens.

YOU DONT WANT ANYONE BORROWING YOUR BOOKS, HOW DO YOU POLITELY SAY NO WHEN SOMEONE ASK?

My bestie is the only one that comes over and when she does ask, I say no! Just no or NO WAY! She’s messy and forgets everything and loses everything. It’s okay though because she is my best friend and she knows this, I still love her but my books are my everything.

IMG_0491

IMG_0492.JPG

My bestie to the left who is the computer geek & Me as the book geek. Also, she designed some of my labels for my Bookish Candles!

YOU HAVE PICKED UP AND PUT DOWN 5 BOOKS IN THE LAST MONTH. HOW DO YOU GET OVER THIS READING SLUMP?

I do it by trying to pick up another amazing read to get myself going, If I stay in this slump mode then I’ll never read again.

THERE ARE SO MANY BOOKS COMING OUT THAT YOU ARE DYING TO READ, HOW MANY DO YOU END UP BUYING?

Once a month towards the end of the last week I go on a huge book haul at my local Barnes And Noble (Going tomorrow!) I tend to get anything between 10-20 books. Serious problem? I know my boyfriend tells me all the time.

AFTER YOU PURCHASE ALL THE BOOKS YOU ARE DYING TO READ, HOW LONG DO THEY SIT ON YOUR SHELVES BEFORE YOU GET TO THEM?

Around 6 months to a year, I would say. Depending on what book I purchased. So for example when Wicked King by Holly Black comes out next year I’m automatically going to start reading, no waiting. For others like the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard they are still on my TBR list and it’s been a few months since I purchased the series.

Well, that is all for now. Hope you enjoy my answers and if you wanna chat you know what to do. At the meantime, I’m gonna get back to sewing for a bit before I get into my current read. TTFN.
